LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), H. Clark, A. M'Kerrow, W. Dallas, and J. Duncan.

Maniototo and Upper Wakatipu.— The Receiver of Land Revenue having reported that arrears upon perpetual leases 1128 and 1130, Maniototo and Upper Wakatipu districts, bad been paid, the resolution declaring the leases forfeited was rescinded.

RtNKLEUORN. — The board having been requested to determine as to bow section 53, block VI, Ranklebura, should be dealt with, they recommended that the land bo notified as open for selection at a capital value of 25s per acre.

Glekomaru.— An application by Mr A. Richardson for a license to occupy sections 73 and 82, block VI, Glenomaru, was referred to Ranger Hughan to report. An application by Fred Berry to surrender section 36, block X, Gleuomaru, was referred to the ranger to rrcport.

Beausiont. — Messrs A. Brown and Co.'s letter with reference to small grazing runs 170b, 170 c, 170 d, and 170e, Beaumont, was again considered, and it was resolved that the matter be referred to the Government with the recommendat'on that Messrs Brown and Co.'s request be complied w ith, seeing that it was very improbable that the land would be applied for at this season of the year.

Grazing Licenses. — Ranger Hughan recommended that yearly licenses be issued under section 116 of the act for grazing purposes to the undermentioned persons at the following rentals, with a license fee of £1 Is in each case :— John Johnstone, block V and part of block XXVI, Dunkcld, at; a rental of 15s ; John 'Johnstone, block XXV, Dunkeld, at a rental at 20s ; George Welsh, block XXXIV, Dunkcld, afca rental of 25s ; Thomas Bowman, block XXXIX, Dunkeld, at a rental of 235 ; Eliza Wilson, block XX, Dunkeld, at a rental of 20s ; Reuben Q reeves, part of block XXVI, Dunkcld, at a rental of 10s ; William dimming 1 , block XXI, Dunkcld, at a rental of 20s • William Cumming, blocks XXXV and XL, Dunkeld, at a rental of 30s ; A. Donaldson, block XXIX, Dunkeld, at a, rental of 20s ; James Brighton, section 16, blosk XV, Crookston, at a rental of 20s ; A. section 7, block XVI, Crookston, at a rental of 255 ; Robert Wood, pail of block XVIII, Crookston, at a rental of 30s.

Tapanui. — An application by Thomas Crawford for a ldaso of the Hospital Reserve, block XXVI, Tapamii, was declined.

Rock and .Pillar. — Warden Dalglo : sh reported on an app'ication by Mr Frederick Persson (for whom MrT. Cbalraer appeared) to'purchase section 10, block VI, Rock and Pillar. — It was resolved that Frederick Persson be allowed to acquire, under section 115 of the act, section 10 under lease in perpetuity (capital value 255) ; that Mrs Annette be allowed to acquire section 11 at a capital value of 30s ; and that Lawrence Mathewson bo allowed to acquire section 12 at a capital value of 30s, a small reserve a'ong watercourse to be laid off.

Waihemo County. — The board again considered the proposal made by the Waihemo County Council that the "fourths" derived from small grazing runs 121b to 121j, situated in the Waihemo county, be paid over to the county council, as access to the said runs was through the county. — It was resolved — " That seeing that the Waikouaiti County Council have protested against the board banding over to the Waihemo county any portion of the fourths derived from small grazing runs 1218 to 121j, the board would suggest for the consideration of the Waihemo County Council thafc the subject be made a matter of arrangement between the two councils."

Moeraki. — Ranger Hughan reported upon applications made by fishermen at Mocraki, and recommended that licenses be issued to the under-mentioned at the following rentals :—: — Reserve F, town of Mocraki : Lot 1, John Edmonston, at a rental of 10s per annum ; lob 2, A. Carmichaol, at a rental of 10s per annum ; lot 3, Thomas East, at a rental of 10s per annum ; lot 4, Thomas Leo, at a rental of 10s per annum ; lot 5, Charles Mygren, at a rental of 10s per annum ; lot 6, Charles Smith, at a rental of 10s per annum.

Ida Valley. — The Under-secrefcary for Lands wrote that a petition had been received from the settlers in the lower end of Ida Valley praying that the Maniototo County Council should take steps to make the road from the north end of Roughridge to Poolburn. — It was resolved — "That as it appeared from the petition largely signed by selectors in a part of Ida Valley that a portion of the road through the valley lj ing within the Maniototo county, constantly used by them, was in an almost impassable state, the board would suggest for the consideration of the Vincent County Council that arrangements might be made between the Maniototo and Vincent Councils whereby a port' on of the ' thirds ' and ' fourths ' accruing from the petitioners' land might be applied to put the road in question in a better state of repair."

Pgmahaka. — An application by M»ry Chapman for section 16, block XIV, Pomahaka estate, under the Land for Settlement Act, was postponed for future consideration.

Miscellaneous Applications — The following applications were approved : — For exemption from residence on lease in perpetuity : Johanna Forrester, section 7, block XVII, Maniototo. To exchange perpetual lease for lease in perpetuity : James Kennedy, sections 1 and 2, block VIII, sections 1, 2, and 3, block IX, sections 8 and 22, block V, Dunback (Mr T. Charmer, agent) ; S. F. Young, section 26, block X, Maniototo.

Nenthorn. — Mr Thomas M'Lay wrote in regard to the payment of rent upon small grazing run 171, Nenthorn. — It was decided to allow Mr M'Lay time to pay the rent as requested by him.

Maniototo — Messrs R B. Martin and Son, on behalf of J. J. Hore, applied to be allowed to acquire, under section 115 of the act, section 10, block XII, Mauiototo district. — The application was declined.

Catlins. — Mr G. S. Souness applied to be allowed to complete purchase of deferred payment section 33, block IV, Catlins district.— The application was approved.
