Both Houses of Parliament to-day carried resolutions of regret at President Camot's death, and their deep sympathy at the loss sustained by the untoward event. In the Legislative Council to-day the member who had given notice of the Address-in-Reply was not in his place, and as the Speaker declined to allow the Hon. Mr Oliver to take his place the matter had to be postponed till Wednesday.

ASSASSIKATION OF PRESIDENT CARNOT. The Hon. Sir P. BUCKLEY referred to the assassination of President Carnot, and moved that an address be forwarded to his Excellency the Governor, with a request that it ba transmitted to the Secretary of Sbate for the Colonies, expressing the Council's indignation at the dastardly acf, and the Council's assurance of deep sympathy with the French nation at the untoward event. — Agreed to. THE JURIES, ACT. The Hon. Mr PHARAZ-BN. asked the Attor-ney-general if the Government .will in a bill duriDg the session to amend " The Juries Act 1SSO " in such a manner as to obviate the necessity for jurymen to be locked up for an indefinite period, which the Chief Justice lately observed "is not the practice in civilised countries." The Hon. Sir P. BUCKLE?, in reply, said it was the intention of the Government to move in the direction indicated. In the House of Representatives to-day the Premier moved the issue of a writ for the Tuapeka seat. A batch of new bills was given notice of, and then a discussion took place as to the action of the Government in connection with the filling of the post of Sergeant-at- Areas. Iv the evening the debate on the Address-in-Reply was fairly launched. THE TUAPEKA SEAT. The Hon. R. J. BEDOON moved— "That the Speaker ba directed to issue his warrant to the Clerk of Writa to make out a new writ for the election of a member for the electoral district of Tuapeka, in room of the Hon.
