BURGLARIES AND ROBBERIES.
Chief-detective Henderson and Detective M'Grath arrested two men -named Jones on Thursday on a charge of breaking into the shop of Mr O. Johnson, draper, Maclaggan street, and stealing therefrom a quantity of goods. One of the men, Donald Jones, was arrested in the street, and was wearing at the time a pair of trousers and a hat which have been identified as part of the goods stolen. This man was a few years ago in the employ of Mr Johnson, but has been away for some time in Melbourne, and returned to the colony recently about tbe same time as Herbert Jones, the second man arrested. From the information which the detectives had picked up they felt justified in proceeding to a small house off King, street in which Herbert Jones resided. They had to wait for their man's return, and, entering the place shortly afterwards, they arrested him. A search resulted in the discovery of a number of silk handkerchiefs, which have been identified as the property of Mr Johnson. The detectives are to be complimented on their success in working up a difficult case, as until they were able to trace some of the stolen property they were powerless to do anything.
