A Denial. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— For crass pertinacity and disingenuous effrontery commend me to your Wanaka cor* respondent. In his notes in your last issue, commenting on a concert and ball held here, he says : " I cannot give any details, as the usual courtesy to the press was withheld." Now I, as one of the committee, can certify that he paid no admission, and, after enjoying a free entertainment and partaking of the hospitality of the people, a discreet silence about the matter would have been more commendable his part. Instead of that he makes misrepresentations which prevented you, Sir, from publishing a report of the entertainment. The concert and ball was got up for the benefit of the local brass band, which is much in need of funds, as the expense of starting a brass band and maintaining it in a thinly populated place like this comes rather heavy otfits members, who do not number many. That fact was so much taken into consideration that the promoters of the entertainment and the singers and all who so kindly gave their assistance paid for admission, and had your correspondent displayed Anything like a liberal spirit he would have done the same. — I am, &c, One of tiie Commititee. [We trust our correspondent may be able to put this matter in a more favourable light. — • Ed.]
