May ll:—2 :— •» Jute Fabrics.— During the past fortnight a drop of }d per rupee has taken place in exchange", and buyers have been able to pay full rupee prices, although accepting lower sterling limits. Purchases of about 12,000 bales 2:}lb. Cornßacks for autumn s hipment are reported at Rs. 27-4 and Rs. 27-8-8, the latter price representing, at to-day's exchange, 4s Id per dozen c.f.i.e. As offers to the colonies at this figure lead to no business, it is presumed that the above purchases are to cover sales made previously in the colonies, the shippers or sellers in question having, perhaps, anticipated the fall in exchange. In woolpacks, a few small covering purchases have been reported at Re. 1-1 or Is 4d for llilb, packs with id extra for loose tops. Other descriptions are steady at quotations. Quotations (New Zealand equivalents) : — Australian cornsacks, 44in x 26Jin, 2|lb, 4s l}d per dozen ; New Zealand, 48in x 26& in, 251b, 4s 4£d : wo.lpacks (fixed tops), 54in x 27in x 27in, lljlb, Is 4}d each ; do (loose tops), 54in x 27in x 27in, lHlb, Is 3id each ; bran bags, 50in x 29in, 20oz, 2s ll£d per dozen ; ore bags, 27in x 18in, 20oz, Is 113 d ; potato bags, 38in x 28in, 2Jlb, 4s 4id ; do 36in x 28in, 2ilb, 4s 2Jd.
