WAIKAKA.
June 19.— A meeting of the Gore-Kolso Railway Committee was held in the school on Thursday, 14th inst. There were present— Messrs F Milne (chairman), G. R. Elder (secretary) J* Robertson JPatcrson, D Lamb, H. Pemble', B. Keith, M. L. Spratt, and W. Ayson. Steps were taken to cany out the .wishes of the public meeting held on Bth inst. and a line of action defined. Ihe probable route was discussed at some length a" l }, l * wnsecnorally agreed that this should be left to the Government, provided Gore was made the starting point of the line, branching off at bordou on the Waikaka siding. • A Daily Mail Wanted.— The mail to Waikaka has of lato assumed such large proportions, as a result of the continued increase of population in the surrounding district, that the necessity for a daily service is becoming more and more evident. Now that the present contract is about to te£ inmate (January 1), it would be well to move in the matter. Another matter that should bo attended to. is the obtaining of a money order office in the place. The people of thfe place must be easily satisfied when they have done without one so long. * AcoiDKNP.-Mr John Milne, of Gvconvalc, met with a very serious accident the other day while driving a loaded dray through a gate. It seems that in going through the horses suddenly swerved to the near side, pinning Mr Milne between the shafts of the dray and the gate, which swung towards the way he was entering, but no further than at a right angle with tho fences. Ho could not get back, the wheel being behind and in this position he was moved along to the gate post with such force that it was shifted. After clearing the post Mr Miluc had sufficient strength left to pull up the team and roll out of the way. Having called for assistance k c as i t i . akcn . < i o , hls ho . llse > where if i a short time Dr Trotter of lapanui, attended him, and did all that could be done to relieve the pain. Though it was a terrible crush, so far as can bo ascertained no bones are broken and no internal injuries have resulted ; but still Mr Milne is in a dangerous state, and will not for many days be able to attend to his work. At this season of the year his enforced absence from work will be a serious loss, as he owns a large fawn, the work of which cannot possibly go on so well without his personal supervision.
A Good Bargain.— l was told the other tlay that one of the purchasers of land on the Greenvale estate has already cleared £1000 by tho disposal of some land bought at the recent sale
