DIPTON.

Junk 18. — We still continue to have fine weather, though frosty. During the past two days, however, we have had a disagreeably cold easterly wind, which is very trying to all, espepially those with weak lungs.

Dairying.— Our dairy factory is now beyond doubt an assured fact. The concrete foundations are all in, aad the smoke stack for the engine house is some 15ft or 20ft higb. Some dozen or more tradesmen are at work on the job, and the place presents quite a lively appearance. Mr M'Bean, who built our manse, secured the contract for the factory, which in itself is sufficient guarantee that the work will be well and efficiently done.

School Matters.— Our teacher's residence is undergoing some alterations, which were greatly needed. It is principally inside work, and it will make little or no change to the outside. The contractors are Messrs Hamilton and Cruikshank. We are to have an entertainment on the sth prox. to raise funds to help t« pay for part of the improvements.

M.I.S.— At the last meeting of this society the Rev. W. A. Kyd, M.A., read a paper on the benefits of such societies. The subject was well handled, and the contributor was listened to with interest and pleasure. The remarks on the paper by Messrs Bell, Giller, and Gray were all in its favour. Songs were given by Mesdames Ross and Whitaker and Miss Katie Ferguson. The musical parts were taken by Miss M'Leod (piano) and Mra Whitaker (violin). The secretary, Miss Scott, performed her duties very efficiently. The next meeting is to be held to-morrow night, the subject for the evening being a paper by Mr Whitaker on " Currency and the Appreciation of Gold." Dancing.— Our quadrille assembly are winding up on Friday night, the 22nd, with a ball, after being in existence a whole quarter.
