At a meeting of the shareholders of the P. and 0. Company Sir T. A fearful marine disaster is reported from Westport, County Mayo (Ireland). A passenger steamer capsized, and CO of those on board were drowned in full view of crowds of spectators, who were unable to render any assistance. The Westport boat was overcrowded and capsizsd through trying to ]ibe without lowering sail. Many were entangled in the huge sails. Berlin, June 13.

A woman has been found murdered in Halle, and her body was mutilated in a similar manner to the victims attributed to •'Jack the Ripper" ia London. This is the third crime of the sirt that has been reported in Germany within a brief period. June 15. By an explosion in a colliery in Silesia, 150 miners were killed.

The mine in Silesia caught fire, and it is feared that 200 men, including the members of the rescue parties, have met their death.. BUD A Pesth, June 18.

Owing to the hostile attitude of tbe Opposition the Belgian Government have abandoned the Import Duties Bill.

The Belgians are fortifying Yakaoma, on the Oubanghi river. It is said that 25,000 natives and a number of Europeans are prepared to take up arms against the French encroachment in that district. Bangkok, June 14. The second trial of Phrayot resulted in his being sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment. Morocco, Jane 13. Abdul Aziz, the new Sultan, is marching

his army upon Fez, where his palace is situated.

Tangiers, June 16.

At Fez to-day Abdul Aziz was proclaimed Sultan of Morocco. The Powers have agreed to recognise him as monarch.

It is reported from Shanghai that Japan has sent a large force to protect her interests in the Corea. King Libi has fled to Japan.

Juue 14. The Corean rebels have captured the capital, SeDul. The Oorean rising is reported to have collapsed. Capetown, June 14. The insurgent chief Malabach has fled to the Limpopo river, and the Boers are advancing. June 17. The Gjvernor of Cipe Colony mges President Krnger of the Transvaal to exempt British residents from military service. Jane 19. The Transvaal courts have ruled that British subjects resident in the Republic are eligible for military service after two years' residence. WAsiiiKGiON, June 18. The stockyards ia Jersey City have been destroyed by fire. Five thousand sheep, which were confined in tho yard", were burnt to death. The damage is estimated at £400,000. Another interesting discovery is reported from D'llodhlo, in the sr.nth east of Matabeleland, where ruins similar to those found at Zimbabaye have baen unearthed. The find includes gold, silver, and copper utensils', and ornaments and nuggets of solid gold. The police raided a Nihilist printing office in Warsaw, shootirg thrte of the workmen and arresting seven others. New York, June 14. A great fire has occurred at Panama, by which one- third of the town has been destroyed. Tbe damage is e.-timated at half a million sterling. June 18. Tbe Atlantic liner Ethiopia collided with an iceberg on the voyage from England. She had her bows stove in by the force- of the collision, and for some time was in imminent danger of foundering. Her safety was due to artificial bulkheads. St. John's, June 16. The Governorof Newfoundland has refused to dissolve Parliament or issue writs for the seats rendered vacant by the court finding members guilty of bribery and corruption. The Revenue Act has not been renewed, and a serious difficulty has arisen. Some traders offered to pay the old rates of duty, but the leaders of the Opposition disapprove of this oourße. The result was that a mob surrounded the docks, and in many instances goods were seiz?d without pas°ing the customs. Sir W. V. Wbiteway, ex-Premier, addressed the crowd, urging them not to commit a breach of the peace. Toe police finally dispersed the gathering.
