At the 107bh anniversary meeting of the Marylebjna Club, held at Lora'a eatly in May, the consideration of tbe suggestion made by the Austialian Cricket Council tor an alteration iv the rule relating to the follow on was postponed. There was such a difference of opinion amongst; the leading English players that; it was deemed advisable not to make any alteration, Jit least for the proseut. English cricket will therefore continue as in thi past t^.The season, of fL-st-class cricket in England was opened on May 2 with a match between Sussex and the filarylebone Club aad Ground. The contest was a singular one, for not only was
it oonolnded ia a day, bub there was not a change of bowling during the match. The Sussex batsmen were seen to great disadvantage and the team could only score 42 ( W. Newham 14, W. L. Murdoch 12) and 59 (Lowe not out 14, Love 11), while the M.C.C. team mada 103 (A. E. Stoddarb44, C. W. Wright 17, Lord Hawke 14). Martin, the Kent professional, captured seven wickets for 12 runs in the first innings of Susfes, and took in the match eleven wickets for 29. J. T. Hearne, • Mead, and Parris also bowled wibh success.
