AUCKLAND TOPICS.
By Taihoa.
Auckland, June 19.
Mr A Davis, of Auckland, won a race in Aus tralia with the colt Acone, by St. Leger. I learn that one of our local bookies landed a nice stake ; I allude to Mr N. M'Leod, who travelled with George Wright, the trainer of Acone. £1000 is stated to be his little haul.
All St. Leger's stock gallop, and have good understandings coupled with splendid appetites. The Auckland handicapper, Mr J. O. Evett, was quite put out at having to handicap Melinite for the H.B. Hurdles prior to seeing her perform. Mr Evett knowß the form of most horses, and he seems to have been correct in asking for the weights to be delayed until after the AR.C. meeting. I am told that Kate, the dam of Bombardier, winner of the Auckland big steeples, was bought out of the public pound at Tauranga for a few pounds, and then passed into Messrs Duder Brothers' hands for £6 10s
We have had Messrs Waddell and Mason, of your parts, on a visit. I trust they enjsyed themselves. Canterbury «ras also well represented in the jovial Martin Taylor.
