Notes from Wakatipu,
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Arrow, June 9.— Once more the asbestos lode at Gen tie Annie and Roaring Meg creeks(Kawarau) is to the fore. Some years ago Mr W. Buchan, of a certain mining fame, tried to float a company to work the lode but failed. The same lode crops out within a mile of Arrowtown upon the Western bank of the Arrow river, but assays made from the mineral are not favourable, though the lode is of a good width. This, however, does not say that in some other portions of its course it may not be profitable. Indications indeed are in favour of this being quite likely. The Moonlight Creek Company (Shotover) are losing no time in getting to work. Tenders are advertised for -the carting of timber, a goodly quantity of which will be wanted. The locality was an exceptionally rich one, and many accounts of the wonderful finds at Moonlight and Moke creek in the early " sixties " are treasured in the. minds of some of the old miners still lingering in these parts, and it is to be hoped that the new company will emulate the reports of the days of yore.
