THE LATE MR CROMBLE.
Wellington, June 8. The*Tuneral of the late Mr C. M. Crombie took place to-day, and was very largely attended. AIL the Government offices were closed till 2 o'clock, and practically the whole civil service of Wellington was at the funeral. Included among the wreaths was one inscribed, " With the deep sympathy of the Premier and members of the Cabinet." The pall-bearers were the heads of the various Government departments, and among the mourners wero the Premier, Colonial Treasurer, and Minister for Lands. Mrs Crombie and 10 of her large family have been left practically unprovided for, but it is understood that it is probable the Cabinet will propose to the House some practical recognition of Mr Crombie's services in connection with the initiation of the present system of taxation, devotion to which had largely to do with the serious illness which culminated in hia death,
