WELLINGTON NOTES.

By Onlooker.

Mayl. At the time of writing, the absorbing topic is the "Wellington meeting. It was a bit of bad luck (and strong wind) that prevented my sending you last week the betting quotations for the big event. The horse quarters at the Hutt are fully occupied, and as the Hunt Club's meeting follows the two days of the W.8.C., the horses will have a good stay at the Hutt. I mention a few with their quarters. The following are put up at Bl'Nab s Gardens : North Atlantic, Midas, Victrix, and Freelance, in care of W. Wood -, Zaccho, in charge of B. Newman ; Alecto, in charge of Lovejoy; and Pinrose in charge of Boyle. At Cress Hotel stables there are staying : Caloola 11, Captain Boison, St. Laura, Flywheel, Aldershot, Norton, Au Itevoir, Roßeguard, Lady Zetland, and Saracen. The horses that are staying at M'Nab's or Railway Hotel stables comprise : Lottie, Geraint, Vogengang, Musket, Oaklands, Johnny Faa, Raven, Moonlight, and Regalia. Swordbelt pulled up lame during exercise the other day, but a few swimmings with The Spy were beneficial.

Rain spoilt the hunt on Saturday. Kaimaniwa injured himself while jumping the other morning at Hastings, and will not fulfil his engagement in the Steeplechase.

Puniau, who cost Mr S. H. Gollan £225 recently, is a slovenly jumper, and he cut himself badly the other day while being used in hunting at the meet of the Wairarapa Hunt Club. On Friday there was an unusual kill, one of the hounds being the victim. It attempted to jump the fence, but fell back, and was making another endeavour when a horse jumped on it. It died in the cart when being conveyed to the hospital. A rumour was going the rounds of the Wairarapa to the effect that Mr F. Harrison had severed his connection with Mr Fabian, and there was some talk of his starting a training stable. A later statement is definite, notifying that Mr A. Fabian's stables have changed management. Mr Fred Harrison has handed over his duties as trainer of Briton to Mr B. M'Cracken.
