ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

Napier, April 28.

James Coachman, a steerage passenger by the Rotorua, attempted suicide on the passage from the north. He fired two pistol shots at himself, oae missing, while the other grazed the right side of his face. Alongside him in his bunk was found s, six-chambered revolver with four chambers still loaded. Coachman was brought ashore this morning and placed in the lock-up. The revolver was purchased when the Wyalong gold rush broke out, but Coachman changing his mind came to New Zealand. No reason is assigned for his act, but Coachman was in a depressed condition and suffered much from sea sickness on the voyage.
