BALLOT FOR LAND.

The balloting took place at the Crown Lands Office on Tuesday for 14 small grazing runs, comprising 10,573 acres of first-class pastoral country, whish formed portion of what was known as the Highfield station, and was occupied by Messrs Ross and Glendining. The land was resumed by the Government last year for the purpose of settlement. It is situated near Naseby and is either traversed by or in close proximity to the proposed line of the Otago Central railway. The Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland) presided at the ballot which was conducted by Mr F. A. Cullen, salesman to the Land Board, Mr A. M. Brodrick acting as scrutineer. The folowing are the results :—: — BLA.CKSTONE DISTRICT.
