OUR VOLUNTEERS.

A battalion parade was held last evening. There was a good muster, and the men were marched to the reclaimed ground, where the new drill — loose formation — was practised. The band was not in attendance, it being at present in a state of reconstruction. The following is the parade state :— Staff. — Lieutenant-colonel Webb, Major Callan, 1 captain, 2 sergeant-majors ; — total, 5. City Guards. — 1 captain, 2 lieutenants, 5 sergeants, 1 bugler, 36 rank and file ; — total, 45. North Dunedin Rifles.— l captain, 1 lieutenant, 5 sergeants, 1 bugler, 44 rank and file ; — total, 52. Highland Rifles.— l captain, 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants, 1 bugler, 34 rank and file ;— total, 41. Dunedin Engineers. — 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 6 sergeants, 1 bugler, 43 rank and file ; — total, 52. Grand total, 195.

The Port Chalmers Naval Artillery fired the first competition for Mr A. Crawford's cup and trophies on Saturday. The conditions were : Seven shots and a sighter at 200, 400, and 500 yards. The following made 60 and over :—
