SOUTHLAND AGRICULTURAL NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) February 13. — The weather has been showery for some days, and yesterday afternoon (Monday) a very strong gale of wind from

the west was experienced. Towards evening a few bushels per acre were shaken out of ripe crops. The gale moderated considerably during the night, but this morning blew very strongly from the north-west. Reaping is general now in a large number of districts, and late crops are coming on fast. The crops have been ripening very fast lately, notwithstanding the frequency of showers, and they have not filled quite as well as was expected. Farmers who cut grass for seed have been most unfortunate, a great deal being still in the

fcfcook, and growing green in some places. ~ 3-he^weather was very fine for some time after cutting, but rew were able to secure the cropjn time. The weather is very favourable for'" turnips, and good crops are everywhere to be seen.
