ALLEGED DUMMYISM.

Wellington, Februaty 8. At the Land Board, H. D. Atkinson, clerk of the Hutt County Council, was called before the board to show cause why his section of 100 acres in the M'Kenzie special settlement, Forty-mile Bush, should not be forfeited on the ground that he had not improved the property. He explained that the reason why he had not gone in for improvements was that he and others in the M'Kenzie special settlement did not know whether they were under tho Land Act of 1892 or that of 1893. Atkinson denied taking up land for speculation as alleged. The members of the board decided to forfeit the land . Similar action was taken with regard to L. Farrelly's block ia the same settlement. Other cases were deferred till next meeting.
