LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Boaird 1 was held on Wednesday last, and was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs H. Clark, W. Dallas, J. Duncan, anel A. M'Kerrow.

Lower Hawea. — A report was received from Ranger Mackenzie favourable to the application of Mr William Smith for permission to purrender the perpetual lease of section 11, block 111, Lower Hawea district, and the surrender was accepted, the board deciding, subject to the approval of the Governor, to reoffer the section at a capital value of 10s per acre, with valuation for improvements, £225. Ranger Mackenzie's report that Mr M. Curran had now allowed a supply of water outside the lagoon reserve, block V, Lower Hawea district, was noted. Poolburn.— Mr A. D. Bell wrote, on behalf of Sir F. D. Bell, expressing willingness to accept a temporary license, under section 219 of the act, over Run 261 a, for a term of three years from March 1, 1895, at the present rental. — It was agreed to recommend the Governor to grant a temporary license as requested, for grazing purposes, at a rental of £282 per annum. Budle. — The board hav'mg reconsidered the question of how Runs 121 a and 121k, at present held by Mr C. Dore, and Runs 121 and 121j, held by Mr D. M'Rae, should be dealt with, decided that the terms of the licenses granted at the previous meeting should b9 altered from one year to 11 months, so that they might expire on February 28 next, the rental being reduced pro rata. Removal of Crop and Stock.— An application by Mr J. T. M'Quade to be allowed a month or six weeks in which to remove crop from section 1, block XVI, Maerewhenua district, in the event of his not again obtaining the land, was considered, and it was agreed to grant one month from the date of the sale for the removal of white crop; hut the board could not see the necessity for granting a request from Mr A. D. Bell for two weeks' tim-i in which to remove his stock from subdivisior is of Runs 121b, 121 c, and 121 din the event of t ac land being applied for ; and Mr John Curmr/e's request for three weeki' time m which, to reaaove his stock from Runts 72 and 72a, VTt irepa district, was declined ; it was agreed to allow Mr J. Waynes —Ranger Hughan recommended that the following sections in tho town of Waynes be offered utder village allotment and village homestead allotment systems : — Sections Ito 9, block II (grouped) ; sections 1 to 6, block 111 (grouped) ; sections 1 to 3, 5, 6, and 8 to 10, block IV (grouped) ; sections 1 to 14, block V (grouped) ; sections 2 and 4-, block VI (grouped) ; sections 5 and 6, block VI (grouped) ; sections 6 aad 7, block VII (grouped). — Consideration was deferred for a week.

Te Anau. — Mr John F. Garvey was granted a license for seven yeaTß over an area of &m acres upon the Clinton river, north of Lake Te Anau, as a site foraxi accommodation house, a yearly fee being payable of £1. Maerewhenua.— The Under-Becretaty for Lands wrote intimating that the surrender of sroaU grazing runs, sections 6 and 7, blockXVI, Maerewhenua district, had been ac^ cepted. Otepopo.— Ranger Hughan having furnished a report on the subject, the board decided that, subject to the approval of the Governor, Bection 138, block I, Otepopo, lately held under the deferred payment system by Mr Thomas- Murcott and surrendered, be notified for sale at a capital value of £5 per acre, with £35- 4s valuation for improvements. Sundry Applications. — The following applications were approved : — For rural land on lease ia perpetuity : D. S. Brown and A. EL M. Brown, section 24, block VI, Woodland. Mr John Johnstoue, C.E., eldest son of Mr Johustone, oi Kailangata, died at, Gisborne Hospital on Tuesday from typhoid fever. Deceased, who was 25 years of age, was married scarcely three months ago. At a meeting of the Workers' Political Auckland Reforca League the following resolution with reference to the Premier's invitation to the Duke of York fco vi«=ifc New Zealand was agreed to be sent to the Premier :— " That considering the hardships of the unemployed and the many drawbacks country settlers suffer from through wretchedly bad roads, this meeting protests against public money being wasted on a Royal visit."
