December 29.— A Christmas tree distribution was held in the Presbyterian Church on Friday, the 22nd. There was a very large attendance of children and parents, the building being completely filled. Mr William Reay presided at the organ, and a choir rendered Christmas carols and hymns in good style. The chair was occupied by Mr John Edie, and appropriate addresses were delivered by the Chairman and Rev. W. G. M'Laren, Messrs Williamson, Dabinett, and Adams. Every child — indeed, with possibly an exception, everybody — received a gift off the Christmas trees. The proceeds of admission go to aid mission work. Great credit is due to Mrs Reay and Mrs Dabinett for their unwearied efforts to make the affair a success. On Sunday, December 24, anniversary services were conducted in the Baptist Chapel. There was a very large attendance from all parts of the neighbourhood. Speakers from a distance were present, and took pirtin the services, which were continued on Monday and Tuesday. A special Christmas service was also held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday, the 24th, when Christinas hymns were sung by the choir, and a solo was beautifully rendered by Mrs M. Zatta. Sports. — The Caledonian sports were held on Christmas Day. There was a large attendance, and the various events were well contested. At 8 p.m. a special Christmas service was conducted by Mr Wingfield in the Anglican Church.
