FRANCE AND SIAM.
A despatch to the London Times from Bangkok says Great Britain lost het prestige in the East because of her passivenes<? in connection with the French-Siamese question, and important British enterprises at Bangkok are being abandoned owing to fears of the future. The correspondent adds that the Chinese in Southern Cannin and Song Koi are preparing to protect their interests on the left bank of the Mekong, and that in consequence the French are liable to be placed in a disagreeable dilemma The French commander at Chaution has asked the commandant at Saigon for reinforcements, as his position is an unsafe one.
