BOWLING ASSOCIATION,
A meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association held in tho Commercial Hotel on Tuesday night was attended by Messrs G. B. Smith (president) in the chair, C. Fynmore, J. Wedderspoon, W. Gardner, J. R. Monson.E. Hogg, F. Peake, W. Stott, John Hislop, G. B. Dall, W. Davies, T. Moodie, T. R. Dodds; '; and George Capstick (hon. secretary). Mr Dowling, secretary of the Oamaru Club, * wrote suggesting that rule 16 be amended by adding to it a clause providing for a subatitute - being appointed in a tick where one of the members is taken HI, or, through unavoidable circumstances, is unable to play.— The letter was received. "" Letters from Mr Butter worlh and' Mr*>\ Callender acknowledging receipt of certificates were received.
The Secretary of the Dunedin Club wrote that this club, at their annual meeting, resolved that they would secedo from the Nsw Zealand Bowling Association. — Received." It was resolved— "That a special meeting oE
the association be held this day four weeks, to take into consideration the advisability or otherwise of carrying on the association as at present constituted, or to reorganise the same, and to consider in what manner such shall be done, the secretary to write to each club, asking them to advise their delegates on the subject." It was reported that Messrs R. Wilson and Co. offered five trophies, of the value of £16, for competition between the various Otsgo clubs,- to be played off in Dunedin, two rinks from each club, the members of the winning club to play off in a single-handed match' for the first, second, and third prizes, the. other two trophies to be competed for by the clubs - whose rinks were put out in the first and second rounds.
Mr T. R. Dodds said that he had received a letter from Mr Brown, the secretary, of the Scottish National Bowling Association, in which the 'miter stated that the proposal to affiliate this association with the EWttjah one was read at the annual xnetting < f the latter, and received with much oheeriug &ud cordially agreed to. He also sent a copy of the rules
fetioDted by the Scottish Association, and trusted that they would be adopted in the colony. The Scottish Association now embraced" 84 clubs and five-sixths of all the bowlers in the United Kingdom.— The announcement was received with applause.
