OTAGO GOLF CLUB.
The Otago Golf Club took advantage of the holiday on Arbor Day by holding a competition for two trophies presented by the club. The course was a little heavy, and the weather was not highly favourable to good golf. The play howe3fer, of some of the members was quite up to the average, the winning cards being handed ia by Dr Brown with 86 (904) and Mr G. Todd, jun., with 89 (934). Messrs H. Park (scratch) and Rose (six strokes) tied for third place with 92 each, and were followed by Messrs Scott (scratch), M. 8. Todd (two strokes), and Maci Neil (four strokes), with 9* each.
Among the notices in the Gazette are the appointments' of Mr W. H. Hales as marine engineer for the colony and Mr A. Legrand Winterburn as superintendent of the State-farm at Waverley; an alteration in the rates for goods on the New Plymouth Breakwater line and for timber from Rangitata and Ashborton and Timaru, wbioh is now to be charged 6a per 100 ft less than the classified rates,
