The Waihemo Contest.
TO THE EDITOB. Sib, — With reference to the announcement in your Wellington correspondent's telegrams re the probable withdrawal of Mr Scobie Mackenzie from the above contest, I desire to state that general regret is expressed in this portion of the electorate at the possibility of his not seeking election. The opinion is freely expressed that with any semblance to fair play he would easily prove victorious. lam sure his old supporters in the Mount Ida district will join with me in earnestly requesting Mr Mackenzie to abide by the decision expressed at Naseby to contest Waihemo against all comers. The eyes of the people are now opened to the deceit and imposture practised on them by the present Government and will vote for a candidate who will truthfully and fearlessly put the true state of the country before them.— I am, &c , Hampden, Augußt 4. Electob. [We have received other letters on the subject of similar tenor to the above, which it is not necessary to publish. — Ed.]
