FORTROSE.
July 24 —The twelfth match, and the eleventh annual one, of the Fortrose Ploughing Match Association, was held on Friday, 21st inst., in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Mrs R. Smith, of Flag Hill. The day was a fine one, and the turn-out good. There were 11 ploughs on the field, and most of the work done was very good. In the digger class there was no competition, but the work done waß of such quality that the judges thought it deserved a prize, and so awarded it a second. The following is the list of winners:— Class A.— Champion Double Furrow. Ploughman. dwner/ ' Mab , e £ I— R. Smith R. Smith Reid and Gray 2— C. Mlritosh Reid and Gray Class C— Juniobs. 1-J. Gregory Mrs Gregory Reid and Gray 2— D. M'f adyeu A. Christie Reid and Gray 3-R. M'lntosh J.-M'lntosh Reid and Gray Class I).— Digger. . Kirwan Tothill, Wat- Howard I son, and Co. The annual dinner took place in Elliott's Hotel in the evening, when a pleasant time was spent, "Auldlang syne "being sung just on the stroke of 12. , Agricultural.— The farmers are progressing with their ploughing operations, and a great number of the paddocks are beginning to show a dark appearance. The season has been a fairly fine one. The amount of snow that fell here was not on anything like a par with what fell inland. , - - . Health Note.— The mewles are amongst us, but not badly, as only two or three famines have been visited so far ; still the disease may shortly get a better hold.
