THE GAELIC SOCIETY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this society was held on the sth in the Oddfellows' Hall, Stuart street, when there was a large attendance of members and friends. Mr Dugald. M'Lachlan occupied the chair. A letter was read from the chief (the Rev. Dr Stuart) expressing his warmest sympathy with the society and anticipating the pleasure of presiding at the annual gathering. A vote of thanks, to Dr Stuart for his kind letter was carried by acclamation. Mr D. Munro, one of the vice-presidents, intimated that Slgnor Salvinihad consented to lend his valuable assistance to the society at their forthcoming annual concert, and the committee urged upon all the members the desirability of patronising Signor Salvini'a Scotch concert, which wns to be given under the auspices of the Burns Club and the Gaelic Society. The chairman delivered a Gaelic speech, which was well received. An interesting programme of English and Gaelic songs was then carried through, tho singers being Mrs Campbell, Miss C. M'Donald, and Miss A. Huston; also Messrs Charles M\Lean, James M'Donald, D. Henderson, Dan Matheson, R. M'Kcnzie, 1). . Munro', and Colin M'Kenzie. Some nice Scotch ret Is were danced to music played by Pipers J.M'Kechnie, T. M'Kinnon, and John M'Phavson. Mr Neil M'Kay was elected a momber of the spciety.
