Mr Skene reports under date August 30 :— The demand now is principally for smart ploughmen for getting in tho grain crop. There are plenty of men walking about, but very few suited for the farm or station. There are plenty pf youngsters willing for country work if they only got the chance, and who would soon lick into shape." The demand for dairy people is always brisk, and wages for country workers generally keep satisfactory. ,
