DUNBACK.
August 26.— The frost which wo had at tho beginning of the week has broken up, and we have had a good drop of rain during the past few days. The spring so far has been all that could be desired, and farmers are all busy getting in their crops. Presentation.— Our stationmaster, Mr Thomas Wright, has been transferred to Kaikoura, Hawkes Bay. As a consequence of Mr Wright's civil and' courteous disposition, he gained many friends during his stay here. On the eve of his departure he was entertained at a dinner given by Mrs Jordan. About 40 gentlemen sat down to a spread which was provided in Mr 3 Jordan s best style. After ample justice had been done to the good things, the chairman (Mr J. M'Farlane), in a neat' little speech, referred to Mr Wright's many good qualities and deplored his departure. He then called on Mr J. Deem, jun., to make the presentation. Mr Deem, after a few appropriate remarks, handed Mr Wright a . purse containing 22 sovereigns. A number of residents also spoke of the guest of the evening as a very civil and courteous officer and a good citizen. Mr Wright feelingly responded, and thanked the ininhat)itants for the handsome present they had made him the recipient of. A large crowd assembled at the' railway station to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Wright and family.
