WAIKAKA.

August 30.— The fine weather we have had for some time past has enabled the preparation of the ground for seed to be gone on with, and a cousiqerable area has been ploughed, and last week sowing was commenced on the ridges. With such beautiful spring weather as wo are havingii|KP r , esen ' ; ' BOwiDg should be in full swing by next week. ROAns.-The roads, though badly cut up towauto the latter end of the season, were fairly well looked after by our county members, »lo««j»^ faceman to have] gravel laid wherever holes appeared This, though rather late in being done, leaves the road now in agood state. Propfrty Sales.— A farm, the property ot Mr AndreVHarvey, contiguous to the township, has changed bauds, the purchaser being Mr Thomas Ibbotson Both buyer and seller have been m the district for upwards of 15 years, and the change in owership proves the estimation m which properties in this districtare held. It is satisfactory tpknow that after testing the capabilities of the soil for 15 years and having many disadvantages'™ contend with for a considerable " time, the former owner finds himself in a position to enjoy for a time the fruits of his labour and take a trip across the sea to visit his native pla-e and see the wonders of the World's Fair. It is equally .satisfactory to know that the purchaser, after visiting several parts of South Otage famed for their fertility, comes back with a higher opinion of his own district than he had before, and backs this opinion by investing his money in this property. The farm contains 600 acres. , Amusements.— The local hall has been pretty well occupied during the winter months. Ihe quadrille club brought a very successful season to a close )>y a ball, which was well attended. Then followed the company's auniversary concert and ball which was also very successful, the hall being crowded. Mr Geo. 11. Evans, who has been leading musician for tie quadrille club for the last, three seasons, was presented on that occasion with a first-class concertina as a slight mark of the club's appreciation of the services he has so willingly and courteously placed at their disposal. The annual meeting of the shareholders in the hall took place on Saturday. The balance sheet Bhowed a satisfactory state of afiairs, and bore evidence to the fact that the propeity is well worth the money invested in it. Although a fair profit has been made every year, it has hitherto been paid into the .capital account.
