Reei-ton, August 27. Stock Exchange report :— To-day's amalgam returns from the Alpine, Cumberland, Progress, and Globe give 11550z, and those from the No. 2 Dark and Big River have yet to be received. During the week a yield of 40oz cloan gold for nine daya' washing came to hand from the Alexander dredge, being the first since the completion of somewhat extensive alterations to the plant made with a view to a saving in the working cost. Mining news is of a more encouraging character this wrek, and improvements are reported in several different localities. The share market has been just a shade better, both as regards tendency and extent of business, and : although values show no very sudden alteration j inquiry and general feeling have beeu on the mend. Big River and Cumberland are at firm rates as before. The latter mine is patting out excellent quality stone. Exchange are quiet, and Lead and Globe at last week's prices. Hercules show a slight advance, selling up to Is 3d, with some demand. No. 2 Dark, Prosress, and Russell are all firm at former quotations. Drake have pretty steady buyers, with no great range in price. A trial crushing from the St. George lease is being cot out and should produce a handsome result. This property is in a most promising locality. - Alpine are a forward stock in steady request, and, sellers becoming less numerous, quotations show a further rise this week and investors evidently mean business. Wealth are quiet, but the mine is looking far more promising than for ThVfXvfng are the battery returns for the past week :-United Alpiue, 3450z amalgam from 225 tons ; Big River, 183oz amalgam from 90 tons ; Cumberland, 2720z amalgam from 25 tons (clean up); Golden Lead, 720z 12dwt retorted gold (for the month); Progress, 2460z amalgam from 200 tons ; Globe, 2920z amalgam from 190 tons.
