CASUALTIES.

On Friday Mrs Power, widow of Michael Power, Ohoka, Canterbury, was drowned in a well at her house. She had been low-spirited for some time, nnd went out about 11 p.m. Her daughter went to look for her, but could not find her. After search her body was found in a well about midnight. At Greytown on Saturday Mr Popworth, proprietor of a flour mill, was caught in the machinery belt, and before extricated he had an arm and leg broken, and a thumb severed from one of his hands. A man known as "Tommy Dodd, while driving a team of bullocks at Waipawa, fell off tho wheel passing over him and crushin" his shoulder and ribs. His hip, thigh, and le" were also much injured. He was conveyed to the hospital, but did not lose consciousness. His statement is that one of the bullocks kicked at him, causing him to fall off. It is feared that he has been injured internally, as he is in great pain. An inquest was held at Napier on the body of Henry Galvin, ag"ed 23, who was found dead on the Petane bridge. A man named W. A. Holben, of Newmarket, was found dead at night on the floor of his bedroom by his wife. The verdict of the jury was " Suffocated by food getting into the windpipe while vomiting after a debauch." A Chinaman named Ah Yeck, residing on the west bank of the Molyneux river, near Clyde, was found dead on Tuesday by a Mr Hall. From appearances he must have been dead for some considerable time. There is no suspicion of foul play.
