DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.
The regular monthly meeting of the committee of tho Dunedin Jockey Club was held on Thursday of last week. Present : Messrs John Stephenson (chairman), H. Gourley, J. B. Reid, John A. Cook, John Fleming, James Hazlett, and Henry Driver. A letter was read from the Hon. George M'Lean stating that he had entered into arrangements with Mr S. Powell, in terms of the committee's resolution, to act as starter at the Spring and Autumn meetings ; and that Mr Powell would give a reply as to the May meeting after consultation with the Wanganui Club, with which that meeting clashed.
The Secretary reported the result of his inquiries as to obtaining tan for the repair of the training track, and it was resolved to do what was possible to repair the track at once ; and further, that trotting horses be not allowed to train on the Forbury park after Ist August. It was mentioned that several persons who had not taken out training tickets had been in the habit of riding round and considerably damaging the training tracks, and it was resolved that the caretaker's attention be called to same, and that he inform such persons that they were trespassers. At the request of Mr James Rivers, Alexandra South, who forwarded sufficient proof, it was resolved that a lad named Frederick J. Beale, who had broken his engagement to Mr Rivers, be suspended under rule 168, and that the usual notice be given to owners and trainers. The report of the conference of delegates lately held at Wellington was laid ou the table.
A letter was received from Mr A. Twomey, Albury, asking that the term of the disqualification of the chestnut gelding Jacob Faithful be shortened. — The application was declined.
An was received from Mr H. J. Gourley, asking for a certificate that would allow him to ride at the Grand National meeting, at Christchurch. — Granted under rules 181 and 182.
The programme for the coming racing season was shortly discussed, and it was resolved that it be left to the Programme Committee to bring up a report. The dates for the Spring meeting were, however, agreed upon — viz., Tuesday, 29th November ; Wednesday, 30th November (St. Andrew's Day) ; and Saturday, 3rd December. This will leave Thursday and Friday for the show of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, and make a carnival week the same as in Christchurch.
