Run 222 a. — The memo of the Under-secretary for Lands regarding grazing right over run 222 a, Maniototo, having been considered, the board saw no reason for withdrawing the right of grazing over the run granted to Messrs Ross and Glendining on June 22 last, they having destroyed the rabbits on the land up to that date, and having since then been poisoning the country. — The board expressed their opinion that if a general right of grazing had been allowed to the settlers, the cost of destroying rabbits would have fallen on the Stock department. RUN 199. The following report with reference to run 199 was read and approved :—: — " We, the undersigned members of the board, have the honour to report that we visited Roxburgh, and a meeting of the parties interested in run 10 ( .) was held on the evening of our arrival (Thursday, 14th July), when a gieat diversity of opinion » omul 1" ~ ust as to the best mode of dealing with the land. " On Friday, loth, we wont over the ground, accompanied by a large number of the residents in the district, and in the evening another meeting was held, when the opinion of a number of them was very much modified after going over the ground, and it was unanimously agreed by the meeting that the run should be cut up into six Miiall grazing runs, exclusive of that portion proposed to be opened for close settlement. "We consider that the plan proposed by the board— viz., to make three in&le.ul of bK runs, as desired by the resident-, to be the best but on accouut of the demand for land in tlu "district, and as a number of settlers with n-sill holdings adjacent to the ground are anxious 'ecure a portion of it, we would, recommend

that it be opened in six small grazing runs as surveyed, keeping off the portion of C ? which was proposed.to be surveyed in small sections. " In regard to the portion^of C, proposed to be surveyed into small sections, we were very much disappointed with the character of the ground on going over it, but as there seems to be a desire bytwo or three parties to take up small sections, and there being no other land available in the district, we would recommend that it be surveyed into three sections, and notified so that it might be taken up by the applicants on cither of the three systems that may be desired. We are of opinion that the small grazing runs should not be offered until the sections for close settlement are surveyed and offered at the same time, " Henry Clark, " Andrew M'Kerrow, " William Dallas.'
