SALE OF CROWN LANDS.

An auction sale of Crown lands was held in the Lands Office, on Friday afternoon, Mr W. E. Sessions acted as auctioneer, and there was a fair attendance of buyers. The following are the results : — Pastoral Runs.— Run 39, Lako County, comprising 340 acres, rental L 5; sold to Mr Johnston, L2O. Sections 9 and 33, block IV, Table Hill district, comprising 90 acres, upset L 22 ss ; sold to Mr Alexander M/Corkindale at upset price. > Small Grazing Runs.— Sections 6, 7, and 8, block IX, Kuriwao, comprising 862 acres, upset rental L2l lls, subject to L 93 10s valuation for improvements ; sold to John M'Laren for L 39. Section 5, block VI, Lauder, consisting of 1290 acres, upset rental L 32 10s ; sold to Mr Richard Wilson for L4l. Section 6, block VI, Lauder, comprising 1282 acres, upset L 32 Is ; sold to Mr John Sheppard for L 44. Forfeited Deferred Payment Sections.— Section 14, block V, Dunback, comprising 270 acres, upaet price 15s per acre, subject to L45 17s valuation for improvement ; sold to Mr Wm. Cunningham for 25s an acre. The following lands have been taken up at the Dunedin office this week : — Section 15, block VII, Crookston, 109 acres, at 20s per acre, Catherine Hough, on perpetual lease ; section 2, block X, and section 2, block 11, Domet district, section 1, block I, section 1, block 11, and section 1, block VIII, Kakauui district, and sections 1 of blocks XIII and XIV, Kyeburu district (all grouped), 13,540 acres, to James Chapman, as a small grazing run, at an annual rental of L 338 10s. THE OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY. Mr V. Pyke, chairman of the Executive of the Otago Central Railway League, has received the following acknowledgment of the receipt of his letter covering the resolutions passed at the recent public meeting urging the pushing on of the work of constructing tho Otago Central railway: — " I have the honour, by direction of the Minister for Public Works, to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of tho 28th ult. forwarding a copy of resolutions adopted at a public meeting held in Dunedin relative to the Otago Central railway, aud in reply I am to inform you that the matter in question will be fully dealt with in the Public Works Statement. — I am, &c, H. J. Blow, Under-secre-tary for Public Works." The business of the Otago Central Railway League will now be conducted in offices secured for the purpose in Bond street, adjoining those of Mr R. H. Leary, and the services of that

gentleman have been retained as permanent secretary. The operations of the league so far have been eminently satisfactory, petitions in favour of the railway containing upwards of 12,000 signatures having now been forwarded to members of the House of Representatives through their efforts. Tho committee have determined to preserve the organisation of the league and to continue to be vigilantly watchful in the interests of tho railway until its completion.
