Town, suburban, and rural lands were offered at auction in the Invercargill Land Oifioe on the 12th. There was a Rood attendance, but no competition, except for a section at Nokomai, which was run up by three bidder* from £15 to £35 sa. Shepherd* and couplet are moving at last, smart ploughmen are readily picked up, and we can never get enough dairy people. If town prospects were as good as the oountry our troubles would soon vanish. Current wages: Couples, £65, £70, and £75; cooks, 20s and 255; shepherds, £55 and £60 ; ploughmen, £52 ; labourers, 15s; milkers, 10s, 12s, and 16s; boys, 5s to 10» ; grooms, 15s and 20s ; gardeners, 20s and 30s ; housekeepers, 15s ; dairymaids, 12s and 15s.
