THE GLASGOW MARKETS.

Messrs John M'Naiks and 00. report under date Glasgow, July 11:— For New Zealand cheese we are to-day making 525, and in some cases 54«, even in the face of our sellings finest new Canadians and States at 44i and 435. We have had in this week olose upon 6000 boxes of these new Canadians and States, for whioh we have found a very ready sale ; but at the same time our buyers are paying the better prices for New Zealand cheese because they have established themselves on this ■market second to none.

Begarding colonial butter, of course this is the off ■eaion; but we are looking forward to do a large trade when the new season opens. It gave great satisfaction last 3 ear.

As our market report will show you, we strongly recommend shippers of cheese to make Cheddar shapes coloured and Dunlops white. These are the colours liked in the Scotoh markets, and bring the highest prices. We would stroDgly recommend our friends in the butter business to be very careful in the manufacture, as margarine is a very strong oompetitor, and unless the goods are really fine it is almost impost jble to get anything like a satisfactory price, because if the butter is not choicest, margarine takes its place, became of its arriving every day fresh, palatable, and sweet. And at all times let the goods be shipped in a cool chamber of the ship. THE AMERICAN MARKETS. Under date New York, July 18, Messrs Henry W. Peabody and 00. report s— Kerosene : Since our last report there has bean a further decline of 15 points, making the f.o.b. cost for HOdeg. oil, Jo w sorew, in cargo lots, 8.500 per gallon. In 1000 case lots we quote ISOdeg oil, 9.450, and 125deg oil, 9.10 a per gallon, f.o.b. Turpentine has fallen off slightly, to-day's quotation being 42f0. Bosins ; F and G grades are unchanged. The higher grades are considerably lower than a month ago. Lobsters : This season's pack, now practically completed, promises to be about an average one. The new goods are selling freely at Bdol and upwards. In other canned goods we have no changes to report. Ironmongery : There are few changes of interest. The combination in axles which has exiited for some time past has been diieolved, and prices in this line are somewhat lower in consequence. Freights ; A stronger feeling prevails in the freight market, and reoent charter! have been made at an advanced price. Owners of vessels have been dlßioolined to charter to arrive even at present rates. Should the firmer tone of the market continue, higher freight rates must necessarily result. We quote rates to colonial ports by vessels now loading »b follows : — Melbourne, 8o ; Sydney, 9o ; Adelaide, 12o ; Brisbane, 17c ; New Zealand ports, 170.
