London, August 16. The representatives of the Great Powers will send a joint note to the Chinese Governmen on Wednesday morning demanding protection for all foreigners and foreign mission stations in the Chinese Empire.
The Shanghai correspondent of the Standard telegraphs that the relations between the foreign legations and the- Chinese Government over the recent riots continue to be strained.
Pekin, August 17.
The Pekin officials remain obdurate and demand that the Great Powers should indemnify them for their loss in the recent riots. The Powers threaten naval action. August 18.
The payment of an indemnity for the outrage committed on the English mission stations has been arranged by the Chinese local authorities. England now demands the punishment of the rioters. Yokohama, August 15.
News of a disturbing character has been received as tp the condition of affairs in Corea. It is asserted that Russian influence has succeeded in overturning both the local factions which were contending for the supremacy; and it is commonly rumored that Great Britain, Japan, and China are combining to defeat the Russian plan. The Chinese fleet is mustering, and war is predicted between Russia and China.
