TUAPEKA MOUTH.

June ß— We are thortly to lose our relieving teacher, Mr Pollock, and it is with sincere regret we part with him, Since he took charge he has proved himself everything a teacher ought to bs. In proof of this he is to be presented with a testimonial on leaving. The Weatebr. — The last 10 days have been very wintry and cold. The Blue Mountains are coated with 6uow. The river is falling rapidly;

should the frost continue it will be very low this winter. Considerable dissatisfaction is felt here at the action of the Tuapeka County, or the Government, in persisting in erecting the punt on the upper punt site at Rankleburn. In the first place, the settlers petitioned Government to have a punt erected on che lower punt site, with the result that a grant of £800 was made for the erection of the punt and approaches. When the surveyor came to survey the site he was heard to remark that it was the best on the river. Most of the settlers have taken up and improved the land on the strength of the report tbat a pant would be erected. But if it is put on the upper lite it is no earthly use to them. In fact, if it is erected there they refuse to accept it as a benefit from the Government. They have no objeotion whatever to its being removed further down the river if necessary ; but higher up they won't have it at any prioe. Petitions are in circulation throughout Tuapeka and Olutha Counties objecting to the action of Government in allowing public money to be spent where it Is of no benefit to settlers, who would rather see the money spent improving the roads for an outlet elsewhere.
