The meeting of the Laud Board on Wednesday was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs Dallas, Duncan, and Clark.

Claffey for ' the right to graze stock over seotion 3, block I, Highlay district, on the usual condition of keeping the land clear of rabbits, was referred to the chief commiestocer. BaSnscleugh.— With reference to the request made by Messrs Laidlaw and Fraser, lessee) of Bun 437, that in dealing with Run 436 the board will detetmine tha present fence erected by thsm to be the boundary line between Euns 437 and 436, and that there b9 a condition in the new lease that the incojnipg tenant pay to the board on their acoount the half cost of ertctipg the feuce, it was agreed that the fence in question be made the boundary line. The board was, however, of opinion that the FeuclDg Act provided sufficiently for the circumstances undtr which the fence was erected, and therefore declined to take any action in adding valuation in offering Bun 436. Maniototo.— Mr James Hore wrote statlDg that the price paid by him for sections 1 and 4, block 111, and section 10, block XVII, Maniototo district;, was escesiive, and asking that he should receive similar relief to that obtained by his neighbours under the Selectors' Lands Eevaluation Act.— Tbe land having been purchased the board decided it had no power to grant relief. Non-complianck with CoKPiTIONS.— Hanger Hughan reported having inspected block X, Kurow, with the result that he believed the following persons had not yet complied with the residence clauae with respect to their holdings :— W. Fraser, section 1, deferred payment ; Thomas Young, section 6, deferred pajmeut, and sections 7 and 8, perpetual lease ; B. K. Chalmers, sections 10 and 11, perpetual lease; Mary Mulvenla, section 12, perpetual ' lease.— Consideration was adjourned for a week Eoad Likes.— A supplementary list of road lineson which the Clutha Gouaty Gouucil propoied to expend deferred payment, perpetual lease, and Email grazing run moneys waj approved Bastings.— KaDgor .'Hughan, reporting od 'an application by Messrs Partridge and Richardson to have quarteraore sections in the township of BastlnßS grouped and offered for sale, stated that aa these lands were very rough and poor, and though they had been offered for sale for a considerable time were not likely to be taken up in their present areas, recommended that they be grouped as follows and notified at £2 per acre for cash :— Lot 1 , sections Uto 26, block I ;?lot 2, sections 32 to 38, block I ; lot 3,«ectiocs 39 t0 44, block I ; lot 4, sections 17 to 25, block III ; lot 5, sections 1 to 10, block III; lot 6. sections 1 to 9, block V; lot 7, sections 21 to 25. block V ; lot 8 sections 2fl to 44, block V; lot 9, sections 47 to 56, b10ck V.—Consideration was adjourned for a week. Survsts cs Land.— The Chief Surveyor forwarded surveys of the following lands with the view of their being dealt with : —

—It was decided to forward tho surveys to the Government for notification. Manuka Island.— Ranger Hughan, reporting on the application of Messrs Rooney aud Stenison to occupy Manuka Island, Olutba river, stated that the island had been cleared of bush, and recommended that it be notified open for application at 30s per acre. — It was agreed to recommend the Government to notify the land at 30s, a reserve of one chain being made along the main beach. Highfiblds.—^communication was received from settlers at Wedderburn asking that the board would set aside for settlement portions of the Higbflslds iuns, now about to be dealt with , and thatthe present survey line of the White Sow Valley block b9 extended fromldabnm to Wedderburn creek.butthebonrd could not see its way to recommend at present any further land being opened as requested by the petitioners, as a large area was already set apart for settlement in the immediate neighbourhood. Perpetual Lease —An application by John Weir to take up rural section 5, block IX, Maniototo, on perpetual lease, was approved. Swinbukn— Mr O. Martin, on behalf of a client, asked the board to dual with section 6. block V, Swinburn district, withdrawn from sale in 1877.— Referred to the chief surveyor to obtain a report from District Surveyor Barron as to whether- it was still necessary, on account of the coal, to withhold tbe sectiou from sale. Disposal of Runs. — A suggestion was received from the Government that Run 109 should be leased for eeven years in place of 10, and that the lease shouM b3 under the Laud Act of 1885; that Run 134 Abe leased for 10 years in place of 14, under the act of 1885 ; and that tbe lease of Bun 259 be under the act of 1885.— Approved.
