STIRLING.
Januaby 26.— A concert and -dance in aid of the Stirling Athenfcum was held in the local schoolhouse on Friday evening, the 23rd inst. Although the weather was good during the early part of the day, it broke in the afternoon, and rained very heavily until about 9 p.m., when it ceased. Despite this inclement weather there was a capital attendance, the room being comfortably filled. Tbe several ladies and gentlemen who took part in the concert were Misses Sharpe, Rooney, Clark (Balclutha), M. King (Benhar), and Messrs Paterson (Dunedin), Tsit, G. Matbeion, A. Sharpe (Balclutha), B. Parker, T. Bell, and J. Crossan (Stirling). Mr C. L. Smith was in tbe ohair. The various songs were well rendered and favourably received, and the entertainment was brought to a close with the comic operetta " The Blind Beggars," by Messrs Tait and Matheson, .both of whom aoquitted themselves well. The piano 'used was kindly lent by Mr James Parker, of Stirli cig. The dance which followed was continued until the early hours of the following morning.
