TRAINING NOTES.
The time draws near to the sports, and consequently a great deal more work is being done by intending competitors. I have not heard of any trials being done, but every day the work is being made faster. The track is being touched up and rolled and watered every evening, so that by Saturday I expect it will be in a very good condition. I saw Deveniah do a half mile last week, and I think he went very well. The walkers put in an appearance every night now in strong force and do good hard work.
Young Jack Taiaroa is shaping very well at the hurdles, but I fancy the Timaru men have nothing to fear down here in that race. lam told that J, 0. Lane is expected to arrive in Dunedin on Friday night. He has been training pretty hard at Ashburton, so our boys will have to look out. Johnson, the Invercargill man, is also expected on Friday night, and also the Oamaru men. Reeves is in Dunedin already. I think the followiug will acquit themselves creditably at the sports :— Le Crerj, Ness, Bain, Taiaroa, Devenish, the Kane brothers, Rallingshaw, Turton, and Arthur Morris, jun.
