Second Day— Saturday.

The weather on Saturday, when the Spring meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club was continued, showed a considerable improvement upon that of the previous day, and was, in fact, until well on in the afternoon, warm and genial. The attendance was fair, but not above the average — certainly not what might have been expected, considering the number and quality of the horses engaged. The racing was interesting and occasionally exciting, but the starting was, except in one or two cases, not irreproachable. The sum of £6970 was passed through tha totalisator, or £584 less than on Friday. The Ordnance Band performed a number of selections in enjoyable style during the day. The following are details of the racing :— TALLY-HO HANDICAP, Of lOOsova ; tha second horse to receive lOsovs, tho third'ssovs from the stake; over Beven flightß of hurdle 9. At the top of the course The Spy began to go op, and as they passed the windmill Ixion joined the leaders. In the back stretch Waitangi still held the lead with Little Arthur, The Spy, and Ixion following him closely in that order, but at the bottom of the course Little Arthur assumed the lead. At the distance Ixion challenged him, and they negotiated the last hurdle simultaneously, Waitangi and The Spy dropping back. When on the flat Ixion was taken to the front, and not being again headed won by two lengths from Little Arthur. Garibaldi, who came up surprisingly well at the finish, got third place, and the Spy, Waitangi, Ahua, Mohawk, and Maxwelton passed the post in the order named. Time, 3min 2sec. Passing the stand Wolverine was first, with Hazel, St. Malo, and Freedom following in the order mentioned, but there was little to choose between them. At the seven furlong post Hazel went to the front, and at the back, where the racing really commenced, a forward movement was made on St. Malo, and Derrett took Wolverine again into the lead. At the bottom of the course Freedom went up to the leaders and the field were clumped well together at the entrance to the straight, Wolverine having command.
