THE RAINBOW.
Somewhere there is a rainbow ! See the swift sunny shower, Waboh bhe round, glistening rain drops Leaving their cloudy bower. The green grass gaily sparkles, The blaokbirds sweetly sing, Moisb, leafy boughs are tremulous, And life stirs everything. Somewhere there is a rainbow 1 Bub bhou musb look afar, Beyond the path thou treadest, Above, where wonderi are. Spanning the western heaven, Hangs the historic bow, Its brilliant colours resting On the dark earth below. So when bhe toul Is passion toii'd. Fond hopes fall down like rain From paising clouds whioh dim Us sky In tears condensed by pain. Calm Nature looks her loveliest, The careless smile around, Heedless'of heart-born treasures which Are scattered to the ground. Then should the splritß' vision Take a bold, steady night ; Somewhere there is a rainbow Of promise ;— broad and bright. -A.D. Dunedin, November 22, 1890.
