Flodden Field drow up to the girths of Springtime, and soomod to have the boat of the favourite until he was asked a question in earnest. This pressure caused Springtime to draw away again from Flodden Field, and being challenged by Ponnonia, they ran a good race to the end, whioh Springtime won cleverly by half a length.

At the fall of the flag the Chopotte filly and Martagon jumped away just clear of Orvieto, Amphion, and Gold, with Memoir last for about a furlong. By that time the Ohopette filly bad drawn a couple of lengths ahead of Martagon, and they were succeeded by Orvieto, Orion, Simonetta, and Amphion, with Gold now the whipper-in, behind the Duke of Portland's pair. Aa they entered the straight Martagon was closing again with the Chopotte filly, and Orvieto, who remained third, first ran out a little and then cut in again. The upshot was that he caused a bit of a scrimmage, in which Amphion was nearly "floored," while St. Sarf waß thrown out of bis stride and Orion driven on to the rails. The recovery of Amphion was very quick, considering that for the moment Cannon lost hold of bis reins, and he went on fifth to the Ohopette filly and Martagon, being separated by them from Orvieto ! and Memoir. A quarter of a mile from home the St. Leger heroine was beaten, and Orion, who had been much hampered, was now seeking for an opening in the heels of the Chopette filly and Martagon. This was never fairly secured, and Orvieto having died out at the distance, Martagon drew on nearly level terms with the Chopette filly, Amphion at the same tir/ie taking his place at their girths. From this point Amphiou was called upon to challenge the two leaders, and, having accomplished his object before reaching the commencoment of Tattorsall's inclosure, he was ridden out to the end and won by a length and a-half from Martagon, who defeated the Chopette filly by a head for second money. Orioa was a good fourth, with Memoir and Orvieto fifth and sixth at an interval of two lengths, these being thrice as far ahead of Gold and St. Sarf in the order named, with Simonetta last.
