" Whatever does that mean, mamma ? " she asks.
" It means, my dear, that Mrs Blank has just got a sweet little baby that never cries." " Was I stillborn ? " asks Ethel. " No, mj dear, you were a very noisy little creature."
Next day Ethel happened to be travelling with her mother in a railway carriage. The carriage was pretty full, and among its other occupants was a very tiny infant taking its pull at the bottle, with that plapid contented stare which babes do put' on under such circumstances.
11 Look, mamma, there's the stillborn baby. Do let me kiss it I " cried Ethel, to the horror and consternation of the mutual mothers and the immense amusement of the other passengers.
