The Mount Cook School Committee have decided that the request made to them to refrain from purchasing any of Whitcombe and Tombs' publications until the dispute with the Maritime ' Council was settled is outside their province as a school committee. Invercargill, August 20. The grain merchants this afternoon agreed to the demands of intermittent labourers for Is 3d an hour. Several men went out on strike on Monday because the demand was not conceded. We learn that the Alleudale coal mine, Shag Point, has been closed, all the miners having been paid off.
