Clear sunny skies, no' wind, and the thermometer at just the average that should suit the most fastidious mortal - farmer or otherwise. To-day a light nor'-wester has begun with one or two heavy showers. Financial and Otherwise —The gr*wt talk of (he week lias been the dissolution of the firm of " Simson, Elsworth, and Co.' and the announcement of saleß by the mortgagees of oortain properties in Gore belonging to Mr I. S. Simson. " Further developments " of an interesting nature are expeoted. [Further developments will be found elsewhere ] A Sfobting Ceremony.— It is not often that tho Gore people have the chance of enjoying a secular ceremony, but last Wednesday night we had a form of entertainment of quite a novel kind for this part of the world. Mr Fred White, of the Hallway Hotel, kept open house on the occasion of the christening of his Fusilier-Jealousy colt. The night's fun was started at 8 o'clock, Mr Tom Hewitt in tbe ohair, and. the host at bis right. There was champagne, muiio, singing, and as much to eat as anybody could possibly want. The chairman gave full particulars of the colt's pedigree and made a.suitable ■peech, and the colt was then ildden into the room by Aleck M'Kenzie in Mr White's colours. The colt was then christened "Bombardier" by one of the host's children, and luck was drunk to-stm as soon as he was safely out of the room. The festivities then continued till a late hour, when the guests departed all greatly satisfied with the night's amusement.
