At the mile-post Houndsditch gained the command from Propriety and Bert. Entering tho line for home Houndsditch was still clear of Propriety. A quarter of a mile from home Vasistas, Father Confessor, and Theophilus were overhauling the two leaders, and below the distance Father Confessor took up the running, while Vasistas and Theophilus were following his upward example at the same time that Houndsditch and Propriety were dropping back to L'Abbesse de Jouarre, Kenilworth, and Reve dOr, one or two of this lot being persevered with in view of a situation. Inside the distance Father Confessor had taken the measure both of Vasistas and Theophilus, and he was then challenged by L'Abbesse de Jouarre, who, creep* ing up next the rails, collared Father Confessor opposite the centre stand, and finally won by three-pacts of a length ; twice as far between second and third. Melody was quickest on her legs, and cut out the work for a couple of hundred yards, when My Star raced into second place. After running wide round Tattenham Corner, whereby he lost his position, My Star took second place again half-way up the straight. Below the distance My Star dropped back again, and although Forester was mending his position, he could not reach Simonian and Hildebert, who were in turn shaken off by Melody, who won easily by three lengths ; four lengths between second and third. Time, lmiu 13 l-ssec. Value of the stakes, £950. Thtjbsdat, June 5. Into the straight Ben continued to show the way,, and was followed by Ornatus, St. Serf, and Polybius, until they were a quarter of a mile from home, when Ornatus drew up to Ben. The issue thus looked between the pair, and as the jockey of 800 suffered from want of elbow room he had all the worst of the fighting to the stand, when St. Serf challenged, and reaching Ornatus in the last stride won by a bead ; two lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 15sec. Value of the stakes, £2217. Friday, June 0. Duke of Portland's b f Semolina, by St, Simon— Mowerina ... ... (F Barrett) 4 Prince Soltykoff's eh f Star, by Thurio -Meteor [oar 8 11] ... ... ... (FWebb) 0 Sir W Throckraorton's eh f Albertine, by Albert Victor— Annette ... (Liddlard) 0 Mr H Milner's oh f Shall we Remember, by Olairvaux or Isonomy— Sonsie Queen ...(T Loates) 0 Betting : Evona on Signorina, 100 to 30 agst Memoir, 4 to 1 Semolina, 100 to 8 Ponza, 33 to 1 Shall we Remember, 66 to 1 Albertine and Star. The flag fell to a gcod start, in which Semolina made running from Ponza, Albertine, and Shall we Remember, with Signorina and Memoir next, and Star last. This order was maintained for a quarter of a mile, when Semolina had drawn out a couple of lengths from Ponza, Shall we Remember going on third from Signorina and Memoir, and Albertine now dropping back to Star. Just beyond the mile-post Shall we Remember changed places with PoDza, and at the top of the hill the last named and Signorina were passed bj Memoir, with Albertine and Star now tailing off. As they approached Tattenham Corner Shall we Remember hung out signals of distress, and with Bignorina now shooting towards the front she entered the straight at the girths of Semolina, Memoir following them on the whip hand, and Fonza dividing them from the other three. They had scarcely crossed the road before Signorina closed with Semolina, and having deprived her of the command a quarter of a mile from home, the little bay then dropped back, and in doing so slightly interfered with Ponza. In the meanwhile the issue had become reduced to a match, and tiring at the distance, Signorina failed to resist the challenge of Memoir, who forged ahead from the centre of the stand and won in very nice style by three-parts of a length ; two lengths between second and third. Semolina was as far behind fourth, Shall we Remember fifth, Star, a long way off, sixth, and Albertine last. Time, 2 tain 40 4-ssec. Value of the stakes, £4400.
