NEWS FROM THE EAST.
(Pbb Press association.) Thursday Island, July 16. News per the China Navigation steamer states that great indignation has been caused in Canton through the raising of the foreign trade import duties affecting cotton and cotfcon yarn. During the launching of a vessel at Osaka, on board which a large crowd had assembled, she heeled over. The crowd foolishly rushed to the side, causing the vessel to completely turn over, and 50 persons were drowned. Ohm Ling has been proclaimed a free port. The German steamer Yangstze, bound from Hongkong to Shanghai, was lost at the Holshow Islands.' All hands were saved.
