Bbkfton, May 9. Welcome.— The company invite tenders for the purchase of their tailings, as stacked at Boatman's. The estimated quantity is 7000 tons. Seeing that the stone as crushed was exceedingly rich, running as high aB 4oz or soz of gold per ton, the tailings should be proportionately rich. There is likely to be considerable competition.
The weather has broken at last, and rain, which it much wanted, is now falling.
May 11. The following are the battery returns for the past week;— Fiery Cross, 2<tßoz amalgam from 97 tons; Progress, 2tf6oz amalgam for the week ; Globe, 4440z amalgam from 190 tons ; No. 2 Dark, 158oz amalgam from 38 tons with boxes.
Globe. — The battery returns for last week are fully up to expectations, and shape well for at leant a shilling dividend at the end of the month.
Big River Extended.— Concurrently with the progress of the works for opening up the new deep level the shares have made some advance during the last few days. It is said the shares are being bought up ia anticipation of their going to a good figure before the end of the year.
Alexandra — This ground adjoins the Big River Extended. Some 8000 or 10,000 forfeited shares were sold by auction on Saturday, and were disposed of at low rates (about a §d).
